Dr. Heidi Lynette Maston, born on September 17, 1968 in Seattle, Washington passed away at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas on October 28, 2015. She was 47 years old.
Dr. Maston moved to Hillsboro, Oregon during her adolescence. She attended Glencoe High School, where she was involved in several musical productions and served as the 1986 yearbook editor. Following her graduation, she attended Northwest Nazarene University and earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree in speech communication in 1990. Dedicated to helping others, Dr. Maston spent over 24 years working for several social service agencies to assist some of the most vulnerable individuals in our society.
In 2003 Dr. Maston earned her Master of Science: Master of Distance Education degree from the University of Maryland University College; she subsequently earned five Graduate Certificates in various components of distance education. Dr. Maston earned her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Change from Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara California in 2011.
Dr. Maston was a member of numerous state, national and global organizations dedicated to distance education and research, including the American Educational Research Association, The Sloan Consortium, the e-Learning Guild and the United States Distance Learning Association. Dr. Maston was named Faculty Lecturer of the Year - 2014 for the University of the Rockies in Denver, Colorado. She had recently accepted an invitation to serve on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Science. In addition, Dr. Maston had served on the Board of Directors for the Alliance for Distance Education in California from 2004 to 2009 and was President of ADEC from 2008 to 2009. At the time of her passing she was a teaching faculty member of the University of the Rockies, Walden University and Baker University.
Dr. Maston is survived by her mother, Marsha Maston, her father, Bernard Maston, and her fiancé, Conrad Doudin. Dr. Maston also leaves her son, Tucker R. Maston, who was always the center of her heart and love. Memorials can be sent to the educational charity of your choice.
